About Melanie Risner
Director of the Fashion Programs at The Art Institute of Portland, Melanie Risner wears many hats within the fashion industry. She graduated with her BS in Fashion Design from the University of Cincinnati and earned an MFA in Illustration/Graphic Design from Savannah College of Art & Design. She has been teaching at The Art Institute of Portland since 2004 and moved into the role of Department Director in 2014. She loves being immersed in the creative energy of the classroom and finds working with students to be inspiring and fulfilling.
Melanie is also freelance graphic and print designer. Her clients include Abercrombie & Fitch, Engine Swim, Converse and Wal-Mart. She is a board member for Fashion Collective Portland, a non-profit organization that seeks to develop Portland’s fashion industry through the creation of living-wage jobs and long-term infrastructure.
